The Experience
– Tour Overview – Explore the historic heart of Fukuoka around Hakata Station, the gateway to Kyushu. This area is home to many ancient temples and traditional streets.
The tour begins at the Hakata Sennen Gate, the symbolic welcome gate to the temple town area. From there, we visit Jotenji Temple, then Shofukuji Temple – the first Zen temple in Japan.
Next is Tochoji Temple, famous for housing Japan’s largest wooden seated Buddha and its stunning vermilion five-story pagoda.
We’ll continue to Kushida Shrine, affectionately known by locals as "Okushida-san", the spiritual guardian of Hakata. This is also where the famous Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival is held, and you can see one of the decorative festival floats on display year-round (except in June).
The tour ends with a stroll through the Kawabata Shopping Arcade, a lively 400-meter covered street filled with shops and local charm. The tour concludes here.
